JOB SUMMARY:
The mission of the TSA Office of Law Enforcement/Federal Air Marshal
Service (OLE/FAMS) is to promote public confidence in the security of our nation's transportation domain. Federal Air Marshals are deployed worldwide on passenger flights of U.S. carriers to detect, deter, and defeat hostile acts targeting U.S. carriers, airports, crews, and passengers.

The employee serves as an entry level Federal Air Marshal for the
Department of Homeland Security, TSA, Office of Law Enforcement/Federal Air Marshal Service. The primary duties and responsibilities of a Federal Air Marshal involve deployments worldwide protecting U.S. air carriers on passenger flights to deter or counter the risk of terrorist activity, aircraft piracy, and other crimes in order to meet national security concerns. Other duties may include protection of the nation's transportation infrastructure. Federal Air Marshals travel frequently, carry out their missions independently and with minimal supervision, and are trained and prepared to operate in a highly stressful environment with little or no back-up available. Under the authority of the Aviation and Transportation Security Act, PL 107-71, November 19, 2001, the employee functions as a federal law enforcement officer and performs the duties and responsibilities assigned to Federal Air Marshals, who:
Carry firearms; make arrests without warrants for any offense against the United States committed in their presence, or for any felony cognizable under the laws of the United States if there is probable cause to believe that a felony is being or has been committed; seek and execute warrants for arrest or seizure of evidence issued under the authority of the United States upon probable cause that a violation has been committed; and identify and interview witnesses and suspects.
Work for long periods without a break; are on call 24 hours a day; participate in a mandatory physical fitness program and maintain required physical fitness and medical standards.
Administer, coordinate, or perform law enforcement, investigative, analytical, or advisory work to ensure compliance with federal laws, regulations, or other mandatory guidelines.
Present information regarding the above law enforcement activities to the appropriate U.S. Attorney, as necessary. Such enforcement activities may involve matters of extreme sensitivity with difficult planning and coordination problems because of jurisdictional concerns involving other nations, and federal, state, county, and local governments.
Participate, as needed, in multi-agency task forces and in investigative assignments involving other federal, state, and local agencies in support of an integrated federal law enforcement and intelligence approach to proactively fight terrorism at all levels.

Incumbent serves as a member of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) Police Operations Division and is responsible for enforcing federal and municipal laws and Treasury Department/BEP Security rules and regulations. Work is performed on a three shift, seven day a week basis providing protection to the nation's producer of United States currency, and other high value security items. Maintains law and order, preserves the peace, protects the life, property and rights of the employees who work in, and visitors who come to the BEP. Stands post and patrols designated areas in order to detect and prevent violations. He/she prepares detailed reports of emergency situations, descriptions and locations of security and safety violations, etc. Places individuals under a warrant or warrantless arrest that may require subduing, handcuffing and otherwise restraining the arrested person until further disposition can be made. Incumbent qualifies on the firing range using primary weapons and carries a firearm on duty along with other police equipment.

JOB SUMMARY:
The mission of the TSA Office of Law Enforcement/Federal Air Marshal
Service (OLE/FAMS) is to promote public confidence in the security
of our nation's transportation domain. To achieve this mission,
OLE/FAMS deploys Federal Air Marshals on U.S. aircraft worldwide;
conducts law enforcement operations, protection, response, detection, and assessment activities in airports and other transportation systems; maintains TSA's state of preparedness and coordinates incident management; trains and manages all armed pilots; and coordinates all TSA canine assets.
As federal law enforcement officers, Federal Air Marshals are responsible for policing and securing the nation's transportation systems, protecting U.S. commercial aviation assets in foreign countries, making arrests (with and without arrest warrants), participating in criminal investigations, seeking and executing arrest and search warrants, testifying in court proceedings, conducting interviews and interrogations, representing the U.S. government in foreign countries, and working closely with other U.S. and foreign law enforcement agencies. Federal Air Marshals are deployed worldwide on passenger flights of U.S. carriers to detect, deter, and defeat hostile acts targeting U.S. carriers, airports, crews, and passengers.
The employee serves as an entry level Federal Air Marshal for the
Department of Homeland Security, TSA, Office of Law Enforcement/Federal Air Marshal Service. The primary duties and responsibilities of a Federal Air Marshal involve deployments worldwide protecting U.S. air carriers on passenger flights to deter or counter the risk of terrorist activity, aircraft piracy, and other crimes in order to meet national security concerns. Other duties may include protection of the nation's transportation infrastructure. Federal Air Marshals travel frequently, carry out their missions independently and with minimal supervision, and are trained and prepared to operate in a highly stressful environment with little or no back-up available.
