U. S. Marshals Service Centralized Student Career Experience Program (CSCEP)

PUT A STAR IN YOUR FUTURE

Informational Fact Sheet

THE NATION’S OLDEST FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY

This cooperative education program prepares potential Deputy U.S. Marshals to enter the USMS. Deputy U.S. Marshals perform a wide range of duties:

PROTECTING COURTS

Safe guarding the federal court system has been the primary job

for the Service since the first U.S. Marshals were appointed in

1789. Today, Deputy Marshals are trained to use the latest

security techniques and equipment to protect judges, their staffs,

prosecutors, witnesses and jurors.

PRISONER CUSTODY and TRANSPORTATION

Each year the Marshals Service transports more than 180,000

prisoners and aliens. Detainees being moved between courts,

prisons and deportation sites typically travel in Service owned

aircraft and ground vehicles.

WARRANT EXECUTION and SERVICE of PROCESS

One of our toughest assignments has not changed over the years

the USMS arrest 75 percent of all federal fugitives. That is more

felons than are apprehended by all other federal agencies

combined. Today’s Deputies assist in planning and executing war-

rants of arrest. They locate wanted persons, make positive

identification and maintain custody of persons after arrest. In

addition, Deputies execute civil and criminal process at the

direction of the courts.
